SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
05 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

POLAND issued a clear statement of intent by dominating Thursday night''s World Cup Race-Off on their home territory at Wroclaw.

Greg Walasek, replacing Krzysztof Kasprzak, scored a faultless maximum for the hosts, with Denmark taking the other place in Saturday''s Final. The Danes overcame an Australian side who were without the unwell Jason Crump, with the Czech Republic also going out of the competition.

POLISH ace Piotr Protasiewicz feels the hosts have a good chance of lifting the World Cup at Wroclaw on Saturday night. The Poles eased through the Race-Off and will now face Great Britain, Denmark and holders Sweden in the Final. Protasiewicz said: ''We love riding at Wroclaw and it was a great team effort. Saturday''s meeting will be different but we are in good heart.''

WORKINGTON have received good news on the fitness of key reserve Aidan Collins ahead of the weekend''s Premier Trophy Final against Rye House. Collins suffered bad bruising to his ankle after a crash at Derwent Park in last week''s narrow win over Stoke. Comets boss Graham Drury said: ''Aidan has been having intensive physio and has had a practice, and fortunately he will be fine to ride.''
