SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
04 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

READING have been given a major boost with the news that Danny Bird is finally able to get back into action after a broken leg.

Bird has had to postpone his return on a couple of occasions but will now make his comeback against the Isle of Wight next Monday. Promoter Pat Bliss said: ''We''ve waited a few weeks but it''s great to have Danny back, we''ve really missed him.''

EXETER promoter David Short says the club''s fans can assist their fight for a future by turning out in numbers for the rest of the season. The Falcons will leave the County Ground at the end of the campaign and further talks regarding a new venue are planned. Short said: ''It is vital for the fans to convince our backers that they will support what is likely to be an expensive exercise.''

NEWPORT have signed British youngster Jason King to take over the position vacated by Michael Coles in the Wasps'' line-up. King was recently released by Somerset as part of a team re-shuffle, and makes his Newport debut this Sunday against King''s Lynn. Promoter Tim Stone said: ''I was very surprised when Somerset got rid of him, but he is looking forward to getting on track for us.''
