SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
03 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SWEDEN are through to the World Cup Final, but only after a dramatic late scare in Tuesday night''s qualifer at Eskilstuna.
Poland trailed by six points going into the last race and played their tactical joker - and it almost paid off when Sweden''s Peter Karlsson trailed at the back. However, Australia''s Leigh Adams defeated Tomasz Gollob to leave the Swedes as winners by a single point. SWEDISH skipper Tony Rickardsson admitted that the reigning World Cup Champions owed a debt of gratitude to Leigh Adams after Tuesday''s qualifier. The Australian star prevented Poland from taking maximum points in the last race which would have left them level with Sweden. Rickardsson said: ''It was great advert for speedway and we are so happy to go straight through to the final. We all owe Leigh a beer!'' NEWPORT promoter Tim Stone is looking to introduce a new rider into the Wasps team for Sunday''s clash with King''s Lynn. The South Wales club have been struggling with the rider replacement facility in the continued absence of Michael Coles. Stone said: ''I am pleased that we are going to be able to bring in a young guy with great potential which should give us a boost after a difficult spell.''
