SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
01 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

GREAT Britain rose to the occasion to book themselves a place in Saturday''s World Cup final in Poland with a famous win over Denmark, the Czech Republic and Russia at Swindon.

Neil Middleditch''s injury-hit side beat the much-fancied Danes by 59 points to 54. Britain, without Mark Loram and David Norris, were heroes to a man, with stand-ins Simon Stead and Chris Harris scoring 12 points apiece.

JUBILANT Great Britain boss Neil Middleditch paid tribute to his side after qualifying for the World Cup Final. He said: ''It was a brilliant performance. Denmark were favourites, but Chris Harris and Simon Stead were awesome and for Lee Richardson to score a maximum despite illness was stunning.
''There is still a long, long way to go to win the competition, but we can take a lot from this display.''
