MINI(STER) MOTO
08 August 2005 - Duke Marketing Ltd

How often do you see a government minister larking around on bikes?

Pictured here is Hon. David Cretney MHK, the Isle of Man’s Minister for Fun and Tourism & Leisure. He was caught on camera while attending the press launch for Duke Minimoto;
the latest kart operator to recognise the potential of their existing circuit for the pocket-sized mini bikes.

Gavin Smith, Marketing and Sales Executive said: “We’ve been aware of the increasing popularity of minimoto on the island, albeit without a professional circuit to run them on. Rather than a supermarket car park or industrial estate we’ll be able to offer riders
a decent surface, transponder timing and full marshalling – all in all, a safer and more responsible environment to enjoy the sport”. He added “Mr Cretney was very keen to attend the launch; the problem was getting him to give my own bike back!”

Peter Duke, Managing Director commented: “We’re delighted to add minimoto to our existing karting and track day operations. It further demonstrates our commitment to make motorsport accessible to everyone on the island and adds another attraction for the island’s many motorsport tourists”.

Duke Track Days Limited will introduce minimoto at their existing Jurby kart circuit on Saturday 13th August 2005. Riders who own their own machines will have access to the 375 metre circuit between 0930 to 1130hrs every Saturday and Sunday. It will cost £20 for the full two hours on an open pit-lane basis (on and off the circuit as riders please, up to 10 bikes max on circuit at any one time). A pocketmoney- friendly 10 minute session will cost £5. The circuit can also be privately hired for minimoto use at £300 for the first hour, £100 per 30 mins thereafter – great value for 10 mates to club together
and maximise their track time.

All riders must be over 10 years old and provide their own helmet, elbow and knee protection, gloves and overalls. Motorcycle leathers or kevlar are ideally recommended as they offer excellent abrasion resistance and many already have the required elbow and knee protection incorporated into the suit.
