BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 23.7.04
23 July 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
PETERBOROUGH will continue to race at the East of England Showground next season – but on a new racenight of Wednesday instead of Friday.
Promoter Mick Horton said: “We are delighted to accept the offer to stay at the Showground next season.” Chief Executive of the East of England Agricultural Society, Andrew Mercer, said: “We were anxious to find a way of helping the sport carry on in Peterborough.” CRAIG Boyce insists he has no regrets about dropping down into the Premier League with the Isle of Wight. The Australian has enjoyed a glittering career in the UK and made the surprise move during the winter. He said: “This is no easy option, the Premier League is tough and the Isle of Wight have made me really welcome. I’m enjoying my speedway with lots of meetings.” MATT Read has been told to rest after having minor surgery on a hand injury. The popular Somerset rider crashed heavily in France at a Long Track meeting last week and chipped a bone. Rebels boss Mick Bell said: “He’s desperate to ride, he really is. I’ve told him to be sensible because he could risk some long term damage if he rides too soon after having the operation.” FIXTURES FRIDAY JULY 23: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Oxford v Swindon 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Somerset v Sheffield 7.30 HAMPTON HOTEL SUMMER SPECIAL: Edinburgh 7.30 CONFERENCE TROPHY: Weymouth v Wimbledon 7.30 SATURDAY JULY 24: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Eastbourne v Belle Vue 7.30 SCOTT NICHOLLS TESTIMONIAL: Ipswich 2.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Berwick v Reading 6.30, Stoke v Edinburgh 7.30, Workington v Isle of Wight 7pm PREMIER LEAGUE KNOCKOUT CUP: Berwick v Hull (follows PL meeting) CONFERENCE LEAGUE KNOCKOUT CUP: Rye House v Boston 7pm SUNDAY JULY 25: PREMIER LEAGUE: Glasgow v Reading 3pm, Newcastle v Isle of Wight 5.30 CONFERENCE LEAGUE: Carmarthen v Stoke 3.15, Newport v Oxford 4pm CONFERENCE TROPHY: Buxton v Mildenhall 3pm --- *BREAKING NEWS THROUGHOUT THE DAY AVAILABLE FROM: OFFICIAL BRITISH SPEEDWAY CLUBCALL NEWSLINE 09066 555 909 (calls cost 60p/min)
