SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
31 July 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

GREAT Britain boss Neil Middleditch was left sweating on the fitness of Lee Richardson overnight ahead of their World Cup opener at Swindon.

Richardson pulled out of Swindon''s Elite League clash at Eastbourne after three rides with illness. Middleditch said: ''I sent a text message to Lee to check on him and he responded saying he had been sick and needed a good night of sleep.''

UNLUCKY Berwick rider Scott Smith made a brave comeback in their 57-35 win over Rye House - but suffered another injury. Smith had suffered a pelvic injury a fortnight ago but in his first race back he clipped the back wheel of the rider in front and hit the fence, sustaining ankle damage. Bandits boss Peter Waite said: ''It''s so cruel for Scott who is a popular lad with us all.''
