RAMON 6TH FASTEST IN BELGIAN SLIME
30 July 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Red Bull KTM rider Steve Ramon was sixth fastest this afternoon at Nismes for the Grand Prix of Wallonie; the twelfth round of the 2005 FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship.
At the third race of the season on Belgian terrain Ramon set a lap that was less than two seconds away from Mickael Pichon’s pole position effort. The Nismes circuit was doused by constant rainfall Friday night that turned the newly laid terrain into a boggy and heavy prospect. Half of the Saturday programme was accordingly cancelled so that the surface would not be ruined and the MX2 qualification heats were replaced by a Timed Practice similar to the MX1 routine. Further heavy downpours during the lunch hour meant the track was one-line and quite slippery for the chrono sessions. Currently third in the World Championship Ben Townley was struggling to find a rhythm and was also hampered by a small ankle injury, the Kiwi was tenth quickest. In MX2 Marc de Reuver completed a steady comeback in difficult conditions and was eighteenth fastest. David Philippaerts set himself up for another good result by entering the gate fourth and Carl Nunn was comfortable and fast on a muddy surface that he normally relishes to be seventh quickest.
