H&H TO AUCTION THE WORKS EMC MOTORCYCLES
05 August 2005 - H & H

As raced by such legends as Hailwood, Read, Minter and Driver

Seven EMC motorcycles will be auctioned at the H&H sale in Buxton on September 21 and range from the revolutionary moped whose frame doubles as a fuel tank, to the Works 125cc Grand Prix machine on which Mike Hailwood won the Saar Grand Prix in 1962. That same year EMC finished second only to Honda in the manufacturers'' 125cc World Championship.

The seven bikes comprise:
• 1987 125cc GP raced by Alex Bedford – the last racing machine to be made by EMC (estimate: £3,500-£4,500)
• 1962 Works 125cc GP - raced to victory in Saar GP by Mike Hailwood (estimate: £11,000-£13,000)
• 1961/1962 Works 125cc GP - raced by Minter, Inchley, Read and Williams (estimate: £4,500-£5,500)
• 1960 Works 125cc GP - raced by Godfrey, Driver and Minter (estimate: £3,500-£4,500)
• 1960 125cc GP chassis (less engine) used by Avery, Minter and Godfrey (no reserve)
• 1953 chassis with 125cc Puch engine (estimate: £2,000-£3,000)
• Revolutionary moped (no reserve)

The current owner of the collection bought the motorcycles directly from the founder of the Ehrlich Motorcycle Company (EMC), Dr Josef Ehrlich, in the early ''90s. The H&H sale in September therefore provides the first opportunity for some 15 years for anybody else to acquire one or more of these landmark machines.

Other entries for the same sale currently include:
• 1960 Moto Guzzi Falcone (estimate: £3,500-£4,500)
• 1979 Honda Super Dream 250 (estimate: £2,000-£3,000)
• 1977 MV Augusta America 750S (estimate: £14,000-£16,000)
• 1950 Raleigh delivery cycle (no reserve)
• 1929 Royal Enfield 2.25 HP (estimate: £2,000-£3,000)
• 1980 250cc Grand Prix racing Ringhini (estimate: £8,000-£9,000)
• 1954 Rumi Tourismo (estimate: £1,000-£1,500)
• 1993 Racing Honda RS250 (estimate: £3,500-£4,000)
• 1987 Racing 600cc Bimota (estimate: £4,000-£4,500)
• 2001 Aprilia RST1000 Brand new – the first ever Aprilia superbike made. Estimate: £4,500-£5,000
• 1957 Lambretta 150d (estimate: £2,000-£2,500)
