SPEEDWAY WORLD CUP
29 July 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SIMON Stead has been called into Great Britain''s World Cup team for Sunday''s opener at Swindon - but he is facing a desperate race against time to make it.

That''s because Belle Vue''s Stead, in for the injured Mark Loram, has jetted out to Tenerife for a mid-season break! Now he is frantically trying to find a flight back in time to take his place in Britain''s team to face Denmark, Czech Republic and Russia. GB boss Neil Middleditch said: ''Mark is still suffering from rib and chest injuries sustained in Poland and David Norris is still not ready. ''So I called Simon, but it took all day Friday to get him because he was on a beach in Tenerife! ''He''s excited about riding in the World Cup and is now, in conjunction with his father Trevor, working tirelessly to get a flight back!'' GB SQUAD: Scott Nicholls, Lee Richardson, Joe Screen, Simon Stead, Chris Harris.
