25 July 2005 - MotorSport Vision

Sidecars, historic bikes and even scooters to race at Cadwell Park

The Auto 66 Club visits Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on Saturday and Sunday July 30/31 for their annual road race Bonanza meeting. As well as being the fourth and fifth round of the club’s Super Clubman’s Cup Championships, the meeting also includes a number of National Championship events including the Lansdowne Classic Series and the British Scooter Championships.

The International Historic Racing Organisation Championship is also included in the programme with riders from Denmark, France, Holland and Belgium competing. Heading the entry list is four-times world champion Phil Read who will be riding a 500cc Italian Paton machine. Another famous name in the classic events will be Bill Swallow from Huddersfield; the multi Manx Grand Prix winner will be riding a 500cc Manx Norton.

The Auto 66 Super Clubman’s Cup Championship has attracted a great number of riders from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. In the 600 class Richard Gibson from South Cave, near Hull, and Adam Jackson from Howden are the men to watch. Simon Montgomery from Goole will start favourite in the 400 class. The Club’s youngsters will be the ones to watch in the 125 with Driffield’s Danny Harrison and Simon Hadfield from Middlesbrough out to turn the tables on local Lincolnshire lass Sam Burman from Messingham (North Lincs). Sam was flying and the person to beat at the Club’s April Cadwell meeting and is determined to repeat her performance.

The Auto 66 run a very well supported Rookie Championship for first year racers, divided into two categories - 400cc and 600cc. This Championship will be run over two legs each day and the riders will also have the opportunity to enter the Open classes later in the programme.

The Club always produces a good sidecar entry when visiting Cadwell and again the grids are full. The man to watch in the Open class is Greg Lambert from Catterick who will have Jamie Winn in the chair of his Suzuki LCR 1000. The meeting also includes a round of the Bikesport News/FSRA 350 series, which has also attracted a good entry.

Tickets for the event cost £12 per adult, with children aged 12 and under admitted free.
Saturday’s programme will be run on the Club circuit and Sunday’s programme on the full
National circuit. Practice will commence at 9am each day with racing at approximately 11am.
