BRITS READY FOR POWERCUP CHALLENGE ON HOME GROUND
22 July 2005 - BMW Motorrad GB

Regarded as one of the most exciting race circuits on the calendar, a full grid of BMW K1200 R machines will line up at Donington Park this weekend as international and local riders fire up for the fourth round of the BMW Motorrad PowerCup championship.

After three rounds of thrilling race action, Spaniard Sergio Fuertes will be hoping for a podium finish to increase his championship lead over Italian rival Roberto Panichi. Only a single point separates the two riders, showing there still is everything to race for in this exciting series, which supports the MotoGP world championship programme in Europe. However, BMW’s one-make series is far from a two-man race. Stéphane Mertens and Gwen Giabbani each have a race win under their belt, while Belgian rider Sébastien Legrelle will be looking to repeat his race-winning performance at the Leicestershire circuit 12 months ago in the BoxerCup series.

Hoping to steal the limelight will be British VIP guest riders, Richard Cooper and Bruce Dunn. ‘Cooperman’ is no stranger to the atmosphere and tension of BMW racing having been crowned BoxerCup YoungStar Champion last November. Friendly rivalry in the form of second British guest rider, Bruce Dunn, should keep the British fans on tender hooks. Bruce is no stranger to professional racing having a history of 250cc GP experience behind him, and will be covering this experience for Motor Cycle News.

Throughout the weekend, PowerCup enthusiasts will have the opportunity to purchase a wide range of fan items such as jackets, shirts and caps. Another opportunity not to be missed is to book a test ride on BMW’s K1200 R naked roadster (on which the race bike is based). Boasting 163 bhp, the K1200 R is currently the most powerful naked bike in the world. As an additional bonus, all enthusiasts who take a test ride before 30 September will be entered in a competition to win an ultra-light SportIntegral helmet worth £845.

The BMW Motorrad UK merchandise stand can be located at the infield Retail site at Donington Park.

Race action from the fourth round of the PowerCup will take place on Sunday 24 July at 11.15am
