BMF KELSO KRACKER
19 July 2005 - BMF

Bathed in sunshine, the BMF’s Kelso Bikefest attracted a record crowd over the weekend when 12,458 people attended this increasingly popular Scottish event.

Now in its sixth year at this Scottish Borders venue, attendance was up by a massive 52% on last year’s figures with not only day visitors up, but also the long-weekend camping facilities proving to be a major draw.

Much more than a bike show, Kelso Bikefest, sponsored by Carole Nash Insurance, has become an important local event for the people of Kelso, coinciding as it does with all the festivities of the Kelso Civic Week.

Held in Kelso’s Springwood Park on the banks of the river Tweed, the area events saw thousands entertained by the ever-popular stunt riding team of Jake Semtex and Flyin’ Ryan putting on a thrilling display of quad and bike stunts. Later, the clear blue sky became the back drop for the Denny Dobson Air Display Team, defying gravity as wings replaced wheels for a display of precision aerobatics.

Down on the ground and landing with a bump, were participants eager to try their hands, legs and everything else at the have-a-go Long Jump competition. Keith Scott was the winner for the second year running and by being the best at flying off a ramp, took off with the £100 top prize too! Aly Fitzgerald took second spot with Paul Stewart as runner up, or in this case, flyer up…

Ride-outs proved a major draw with over eighty bikes joining the rides through the stunning local countryside courtesy of local Honda dealer Bob Crawley. Trade and club stands proved a popular draw, as did the immaculate bikes of all types from all eras sparkling in the summer sun as part of the Best in Show competition.

The Carole Nash Roadshow with live bands and plenty of giveaways, plus all the fun of an on-site traditional fairground to entertain all ages, rounded out the festival atmosphere of this increasingly popular event.
