SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
16 July 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SHANE Parker has admitted he was on the verge of quitting the sport before his move to Glasgow.

The Australian showman celebrates his testimonial at Ashfield with a star-studded line-up on Sunday. He said: ''I was ready to pack it all in and go home before I joined Glasgow, I wasn''t earning any money and I''d had enough. It''s a move which has prolonged my career which is great.''

BILLY Hamill has been given the all-clear to continue racing after his crash during Oxford''s Elite League meeting with Ipswich. Hamill pulled out of the match with a hand injury but nothing is broken, a boost for both rider and club. Oxford boss Nigel Wagstaff said: ''It''s important for Billy to keep on racing as much as possible as he has already missed a big part of this season.''
