DON’T RIDE 2 WORK, RIDE TO ROCKINGHAM!
15 July 2005 - BMW Motorrad GB

This year’s Ride 2 Work Day will take place on 20 July but BMW Motorrad is urging riders to take a day away from the office, get on their bikes and journey to the World of BMW’s first ever track day at Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire.

Next Wednesday’s event costs just £149 per person for a full day’s riding and there are a few places still available for those bikers who always wait until the last minute to see what the weather has in store, before booking. The good news is that early indications predict a wonderful day on 20 July.

Finding ways to beat the good old British weather has become a national pastime. More than most, motorcyclists suffer from this particular affliction – particularly when it comes to booking track days. After all, why waste good money on a rainy day in Northamptonshire?

Weather forecasts available on the internet state that in brief, the day is expected to be warm with a light breeze, and a seven per cent clouded sky should mean a day of virtually uninterrupted sunshine. In other words, forget the recent storms, it’s time to ride, so why not make your own contribution to Ride 2 Work Day by riding to Rockingham instead.

Participants in next Wednesday’s World of BMW Track Day will benefit from the experience of the California Superbike School (CSS) team, which is managing this event. The day will start with a safety and procedural briefing by a qualified instructor. A team of instructors will also be available throughout the day to answer questions so that riders get the most out of their track day. Participants will be divided into groups (based on skill and experience) and ride the track in six to seven, 20-minute sessions.

As an added attraction, those who attend can also expect to see appearances from BMW BoxerCup YoungStar champion Richard Cooper and racing journalist Bruce Dunn. Both racers are trying out BMW’s formidable 163 bhp K1200 R machine, before taking on the world’s best at Donington Park four days later in the International PowerCup race series that supports the MotoGP World Championship programme.
