Based on their market leading System 21 alarm upgrade, Datatool have developed a ‘plug-in’ alarm that will allow many Yamaha owners to have the OE security immobiliser on their machines upgraded to Thatcham Category 1.

Apart from the additional security features, including a 117db siren which is triggered if the vehicle is moved, the seat is removed or the wiring is cut, most insurers also offer discounted premiums for such highly rated hardware.

The System 21 (so-called because it upgrades the immobiliser from Category 2 to Category 1) is specifically designed to ‘plug in’ to the existing wiring loom on many of Yamaha’s best selling models. These include motorcycles like the YZF R1 (Feb 2004 on) & R6 (Dec 2002 on), FZ-6 Fazer (Sept 2003 on), FJR1300 (Feb 2003 on), XRR1300 (Nov 2003 on) and super scooters like the T-Max (Jan 2004 on) and YP400 Majesty (Jan 2004 on). A key benefit of ‘plug-in’ systems is that they require much less work to fit than universal systems, thus reducing labour (and associated costs) and also reducing the risk of a fitting error. The System 21 incorporates a number of innovative features and benefits for the end user well above the normal functions of a standard after-market alarm system.

Datatool have incorporated several intelligent features into this security device’s electronic ‘brain’, such as an “intelligent” sleep mode . This monitors battery condition and reacts accordingly so protecting the battery from excessive current drain.

This is complimented by a PIN over-ride, which allows the owner to program in their own (easy to remember) PIN number to over-ride the system in the event of battery failure/key fob loss. There is even the possibility to customise the System 21 by choosing from 8 different siren tones.
