BREUGELMANS SHAKES OFF CRASHES TO ENJOY HOME GP PODIUM
10 July 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Factory Red Bull KTM rider Sven Breugelmans won the second moto at round eight of the MX3 World Championship taking place in front of around 4000 fans at Lommel in Belgium today.
Breugelmans had set the pole position time in practice on Saturday afternoon but slipped off three times in the first heat (the first incident while leading) and could only finish fifth. Julien Bill was second quickest after the official chrono but had a hefty spill in the first moto and struggled to restart his machine leaving him well down the race order and out of the points. The youngster from Switzerland would fall again in the next race and record a final position of fifteenth in his worst weekend of the season so far. Reigning Champion Yves Demaria grabbed the holeshot in both races and produced a good performance in the deep Belgian sand. In very warm temperatures the Frenchman was a steady fourth in the opening moto and was leading the second until Breugelmans pulled through to overtake his team-mate and secure a popular victory. Bas Verhoeven took overall success but was flanked by Breugelmans and then Demaria on the podium. First moto: 1. Verhoeven 2. Bobkovs 3. Demeester 4. Demaria 5. Breugelmans Second moto: 1. Breugelmans 2. Demaria 3. Verhoeven 4. Van Hastenberg 5. Lindfurs
