SECOND PLACE FOR JONES
09 July 2005 - Honda Racing

Chris Jones will start tomorrow’s British 125GP Championship race from second position on the grid. It is the 14-year-old’s best qualifying result of the season to date aboard the Red Bull Honda.

The Droitwich teenager improved his time by almost two seconds between sessions today after the Red Bull Honda team made a number of key technical adjustments to RS125. He even held provisional pole for most of the second half of the session before being eclipsed in the final minute by Kev Coghlan.

It is Jones’ fifth front row start for Red Bull Honda in the 2005 championship, which is dominated by Honda riders. The rookie is aiming to capitalise on this strong position to secure either his second victory or fourth podium finish of the season.

Chris Jones: “It was definitely a case of so near but yet so far where pole position was concerned. I’m pleased with the improvement in my time and position, however this is tinged by slight disappointment at narrowly missing out on my first pole. The Red Bull Honda RS125 is really flying along the straights here at Snetterton and I hope that I can repeat my team-mate Eugene Laverty’s success here last season.”

Qualifying: 1. K. Coghlan (Honda) 1:13.581; 2. C. Jones (Red Bull Honda) 1:13.664; 3. R. Guiver (Honda) 1:13.884; 4. A. Beech (Honda) 1:14.050; 5. B. Clark (Honda) 1:14.224; 6. K. Weston (Honda) 1:14.440; 7. D. Cooper (Honda) 1:14.683; 8. C. Elkin (Honda) 1:14.723; 9. J. Pearson (Honda) 1:14.771; 10. M. Wilcox (Honda) 1:14.777
