LAVERTY ON FRONT ROW
09 July 2005 - Honda Racing

Eugene Laverty has equalled his best qualifying position of the season for his second front row start in the 2005 Metabo British Supersport Championship.

The Red Bull Honda rider was strong in both of today’s sessions, finishing second at the end of the first qualifying period.

The 19-year-old was unable to better his time of 1:08.430 during the afternoon. He had planned to go for a fast lap in the closing stages of the second session, however this was prevented by a red flag incident a couple of minutes before the chequered flag was due to fall.

Having secured his best race finish at the last round at Knockhill, Laverty continues to grow in confidence in the Supersport class. He claimed victory at the Norfolk circuit in the 125GP class last year and is hoping for his first podium finish of 2005 this weekend.

Eugene Laverty: “The Red Bull Honda is working really well here at Snetterton. I’ve got a good race set-up and the CBR600RR is also really fast, which is vital at this track. Equally important is a good start, so I’m really happy to be on the front row. I expect my main threat this weekend to be Stuart Easton, but I’ll just be focussing on my own race.”

Qualifying: 1. S. Easton (Ducati) 1:08.152; 2. C. Jones (Honda) 1:08.154; 3. E. Laverty (Red Bull Honda) 1:08.430; 4. P. Riba (Kawasaki) 1:08.618; 5. J. Robinson (Honda) 1:08.625; 6. L. Camier (Honda) 1:08.774; 7. M. Llewellyn (Honda) 1:08.975; 8. S. Andrews (Suzuki) 1:09.260; 9. K. Murphy (Honda) 1:09.342; 10. C. Crutchlow (Honda) 1:09.354
