TOP TEN FOR HARRIS
09 July 2005 - Honda Racing
Karl Harris will start tomorrow’s two Bennetts British Superbike Championship races from row three on the grid after securing tenth position in today’s qualifying.
The Yorkshireman was in sixth position at the end of the morning session, but was unable to maintain this during the afternoon as his rivals upped the pace. The 25-year-old crashed the Dunlop/BLD-backed CBR1000RR Fireblade twice during yesterday’s free practice sessions. Therefore, the Sheffield star has been making up for lost time with regard to the set-up of the Honda-Racing.co.uk machine. Tenth is the lowest qualifying position of the season to date for Harris. However, he has previously started from the third row on two separate occasions – at Mondello Park and Knockhill – but managed to secure strong point-scoring finishes over race distance. Karl Harris: “This has obviously been a challenging weekend for the Honda-Racing.co.uk team. Yesterday’s crashes have had a bearing on my performance today, but I feel that I can turn this around tomorrow. “It’s just a question of putting these small setbacks to the back of my mind and hopefully rebuilding my confidence. I’ve lost some ground to the riders who are ahead of me in the championship and I’ve got to make up for that – starting with two strong rides at Snetterton.” Qualifying: 1. L. Haslam (Ducati) 1:05.403; 2. R. Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda Racing) 1:05.435; 3. M. Rutter (HM Plant Honda Racing 1:05.581; 4. M. Laverty (Honda) 1:05.718; 5. J. Haydon (Suzuki) 1:05.789; 6. S. Plater (Honda) 1:05.817; 7. G. Lavilla (Ducati) 1:05.940; 8. J. Reynolds (Suzuki) 1:06.005; 9. D. Thomas (Kawasaki) 1:06.064; 10. K. Harris (Honda-Racing.co.uk) 1:06.175
