SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
09 July 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

OXFORD promoter Nigel Wagstaff is eagerly awaiting Sunday''s Betfred Championship of Great Britain - but refuses to predict a winner!

Joe Screen defends the title he won at the Cowley venue last year, and is one of five former Champions in the field. Wagstaff said: ''Everyone has worked tirelessly to ensure the day is a complete success and I think that the title is wide open.''

WOLVERHAMPTON promoter Chris Van Straaten is backing veteran American Ronnie Correy to find top form again in the near future. Correy has been hit hard by mechanical misfortune and wrote off a new machine in a crash at Poole on Wednesday. Van Straaten said: ''We all know what Ronnie is capable of, and hopefully he can get back in the points and lift his confidence.''
