REA AIMS HIGH
08 July 2005 - Honda Racing

Following an astounding season to date, Jonathan Rea heads to Snetterton for round eight of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend in a confident mood.

The 18-year-old has proved to be a surprise package in his debut season in the ultra-competitive series and displayed the potential of the three-tiered Red Bull Honda youth development programme.

He has already become the youngest ever person to secure pole position in the championship and has powered the Red Bull Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade to three top ten finishes. Rea’s memorable performances and best results have been at the most recent events at Mondello Park, Croft and Knockhill.

Although Snetterton was not a favourite of the Ulster teenager last year, he is approaching Sunday’s race with optimism. The teenager’s aim is to continue to progress as a rider, starting with his fourth and possibly fifth top ten finishes of the season at the 1.952-mile Norfolk circuit.

As always, a strong qualifying position is important for Rea, but this is certainly within the young rider’s reach having started the last six races from the front row of the grid.

Jonathan Rea: “I’m really pleased with my performance and progress so far this season and I have Red Bull Honda to thank for a lot of that. I have found it much easier to adapt to the Red Bull Honda Fireblade than I did to the CBR600RR. My aim now is to maintain the momentum that I have developed already this season and build on it, starting with this weekend.“
