INDOOR TRIAL AT THE WORLD GAMES
07 July 2005 - Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme
The 2005 World Games will start next week in Duisburg, Germany. This event is a very special one, as the FIM has been invited to take part in it with a demonstration of Indoor Trial.
The World Games are an international sporting event held every four years (one year after the Olympic Games), under the patronage of the IOC, gathering together 34 sports (and 6 invited sports) which are not included in the Olympic Games, but which might be included in the near future. All Federations who are controlling these sports are officially recognised by the IOC. This event, counting with 3500 athletes from over 100 countries, 40 sports and an expectation of more than half a million of spectators, is one of the largest in the world, together with the Olympic Games and the Football World Cup. The participation of the FIM in this event is obviously very important for the motorcycling sport, and for Trial in particular, which includes not only riding the motorcycle but also controlling it in every situation, even without moving forwards or backwards. Control of the body, sense of balance, concentration, strength, endurance and courage are required at all times. The riders must maintain a perfect physical condition and an exceptional mental control of their actions, and also take some initiative… The demonstration during the World Games will be an Indoor Trial competition for National teams following the rules of the Indoor Trial des Nations with some adaptations for six teams instead of three, in which all the best Trial riders regularly taking part in the World championship will compete, and a demonstration of Women’s Trial. The event will take place on July 22 and 23 in the Oberhausen Arena Centre, near Duisburg. The teams, the timetable and the rules are the following: Spain: Adam Raga (2003, 2004 and 2005 individual Indoor World Champion), Marc Freixa, Jeroni Fajardo – Team manager: Marc Colomer - Spain won the Trial des Nations 11 times, and the Indoor Trial des Nations 2 times.
