CATCH HER IF YOU CAN
09 July 2005 - Harley-Davidson UK

The high-adrenaline world of drag racing has a potential new star. Bev Riley, a service team leader from Stadium Harley-Davidson in Chingford is planning to create a stir this summer as she competes in the national Super Twins class on her 1,375cc Harley-Davidson Sportster drag racer.

Having made her official racing debut at Warwickshire’s Avon Park strip Bev is looking forward to a summer of high-speed competition and even faster times:

“Before that first race my stomach was doing the loop-the loop and it felt like I’d just got off a rollercoaster. I was seriously nervous but as soon as the lights went green all the jitters go and you get a massive buzz!”

Bev, who has been riding motorcycles since she was 16, was encouraged to get into racing by her colleagues at Stadium Harley-Davidson:

“Several of the guys working at the dealership are already seasoned drag racers, and I was going along to support them as the events are great fun. They said that I should be taking part and I thought; ‘what’s stopping me?’ With the help of these guys we’re tuning and testing the Sportster, and I’m keen to see what it can do!

“The racing is just another great aspect of working for Stadium; it’s not part of my role as service team leader, but the team have backed me all the way.”

Bev will participate in 6 race meetings and two special events over the 2005 season and as one of only three ladies in the series she hopes to match the boys from beginning to end. Her ultimate goal for the season is to break the 125mph mark over the ¼ mile course on her Sportster.

John Crowder, new manager at Stadium Harley-Davidson is equally as enthusiastic: “My team’s racing credentials are already extremely impressive, and for Bev to join our tradition of drag racing is fantastic. She’s fired up and raring to give it her best shot, and we’ll all be there cheering her on at the next round.”
