SHEFFIELD SPEEDWAY
18 July 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SHEFFIELD Pirtek Tigers collected an important aggregate bonus point when they went down to a battling nine-point defeat at Glasgow on Sunday at the Ashfield Stadium.
A 5-1 in Heat 13 from guest Simon Stead and Andre Compton brought Tigers into contention for a possible shock away win as they trailed by just three points, but Glasgow finished strongly with a 5-1 and a 4-2 in the last two heats. It gave the home side a 51-42 win to leave Tigers still frustrated away from home, but their 55-41 victory when the two sides met at Owlerton was comfortably enough to take the bonus point. GLASGOW: James Grieves 14, Shane Parker 12, Eric Carrillo 10+3, George Stancl 9, Paul Bentley 5, Barry Campbell 1+1, rider replacement for Lee Dicken. SHEFFIELD: Simon Stead 13, Andre Compton 11+1, Ricky Ashworth 8+1, Andrew Moore 4+1, Richard Hall 3+1, Ben Wilson 2, James Birkinshaw 1+1. *MONDAY night''s scheduled Conference Trophy match for the Pirtek Prowlers at Coventry has been called off due to essential maintenance work taking place on the stadium floodlights at Brandon. No new date has yet been arranged for the fixture.
