LOCAL RIDERS ANTICIPATING TENSION AT CADWELL PARK NEW ERA MCC EVENT
27 June 2005 - MotorSport Vision
Competition and rivalry set to be a certainty at Lincolnshire venue
A number of locals will be hoping for success on home soil at Cadwell Park this weekend (July 2/3), with several rider from the region competing within the Formula 400 and 125cc and 250cc Grand Prix classes of the New Era Motor Cycle Club’s meeting at the Lincolnshire venue Within Formula 400 the pressure will be on Nettleham’s Dave Irons, who arrives at Cadwell with a significant championship lead over second-placed Colin Sleigh. Another local rider – Spalding’s Barry Poll – will be hoping to bump Sleigh down to third in the standings with a good result at his home track, but Nettleham’s Tom Warner (fourth in the points) will be another challenger. Both 125cc and 250cc machines will compete at the same time over the weekend and, although John Lewis is a runaway leader in the 250cc championship class, just two points separate Billy Wood and Rob Knight in 125s. Spalding’s very own Jez Wilson will be fighting to improve on his position of joint second in the 250cc Championship, with tight competition from London’s Andy Hyde, who he is currently tied with. Other races within the weekend’s crammed timetable include the Formula 600, Sound of Thunder, and the Pro-Bikes. Simon Nuttall has a commanding lead in the Sound of Thunder series, and will be hopeful of improving around the daunting terrain of Cadwell, while Dean Wain and David Hood battle closely for second. In Formula 600 though, competition is close at the top. Yamaha-riding Anthony Hinton is currently the man to beat, 19 points ahead of James Wheatley. Everything is still to play for though and with Chris Hawkes just another point behind Wheatley, anything could happen. There is racing on both Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3, with practice starting at 9.15am on both days. Racing starts from 11.10am on both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost £12 per adult per day with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Parking and Paddock access is also available both days, free of charge.
