HARRIS ON FRONT ROW
17 July 2004 - Honda Racing

HM Plant Honda Racing’s Karl Harris has powered his CBR600RR onto the front row for tomorrow’s British Supersport Championship race at Mallory Park.

Despite changeable weather conditions, the 24-year-old Sheffield rider put in a strong performance at the Leicestershire circuit.

Light rain started to fall as the afternoon session began but the 1.39-mile track remained dry. Harris was involved in a tough four-way battle for the lead with Honda-mounted Jay Vincent – who took pole position – Simon Andrews and Pere Riba.

Harris held onto the third place that he earned in the morning session – with a best lap time of 52.815 seconds – for several laps, but eventually slipped down to fourth position with a best lap time in the afternoon of 53.047.

Karl Harris: “I’ve achieved what I set out to do by getting onto the front row. The Supersport races have been close all season, and as Mallory Park is a short circuit, it’s important to get a good start here. I’m looking forward to the race and am confident that I can extend my lead in the championship. The set-up we’ve got on the HM Plant Honda Racing CBR600RR is good, so I’ll be aiming for maximum points tomorrow.”

Qualifying times: 1. J. Vincent (Honda) 52.567; 2. S. Andrews (Yamaha) 52.668; 3. P. Riba (Kawasaki) 52.750; 4. K. Harris (HM Plant Honda Racing) 52.815; 5. P. Young (Honda) 52.836; 6. M. Llewellyn (Ducati) 52.915; 7. M. Laverty (Ducati) 53.037; 8. T. Sykes (Suzuki) 53.128; 9. C. Jones (Triumph) 53.130; 10. L. Camier (Honda) 53.199
