SPEEDWAY - WEEKLY ROUND-UP
28 June 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
ARENA-ESSEX are hoping that American rider Josh Larsen is not ruled out for too long after suffering a broken collar-bone.
ELITE LEAGUE LATEST. Promoter Ronnie Russell said: ''It seems like one of those years when everything has to be tinged with sadness. I''ve never known anyone have such a run of bad luck as Josh. ''Josh is tough and I know for sure that he will be back before many other riders would be if they were in his situation. He always gets back quickly.'' BELLE VUE are sweating on the fitness of World Champion Jason Crump who suffered possible thumb and scaphoid damage in a mechanical failure at Eastbourne on Monday. Manager Ian Thomas said: ''We have twelve matches coming up in July so it''s a tough time and we aren''t having the best of luck. ''We wouldn''t have won the match at Eastbourne, but I think with Jason riding all night we would probably have been able to sneak the bonus point.'' COVENTRY joint-boss Peter Oakes was full of praise for his below-strength team who raced to a ten-point win at Oxford despite being without several regulars. Oakes said: ''You can''t have any complaints if you win by ten points away with a somewhat depleted team, and every rider played their part in it. ''We have to beat Oxford at home to get the bonus point, but I actually think they are a decent side and certainly will be hard to beat at Sandy Lane.'' EASTBOURNE reserve Andrew Moore is looking to the future with more confidence following his score of paid ten against Belle Vue. Moore said: ''The results are coming now and I feel a lot more confident now that I am number seven. I am quite happy at reserve. ''It makes a massive difference to make the start, and I made a start in a harder race than the reserves'' race. I wasn''t expecting it and it was a big surprise.'' IPSWICH promoter John Louis was pleased with his team''s display at Wolverhampton on Monday, where the Witches suffered a narrow four-point defeat. Louis said: ''It was a big team effort from our lads tonight and an excellent meeting that I am sure the public enjoyed a lot. ''We battled to the death and we have given ourselves a great chance of the bonus point when Wolves come to Foxhall later in the season.'' OXFORD boss Nigel Wagstaff has revealed yet another new signing is on the way to Cowley. Wagstaff is set to replace Tomasz Bajerski who is struggling to fulfill his British fixtures. He said: ''I do need to do something and I don''t want to be caught out with this situation, something has to be done. Hopefully it will all fall into place without any complications, I have someone lined up.'' PETERBOROUGH manager Trevor Swales hopes that the Panthers'' season could now be back on the up after back to back wins over Arena-Essex last week. Swales said: ''Arena-Essex is one of the tracks I always look forward to going to, and of course you enjoy it even more when you win. It was a very pleasing performance. ''I was very confident going into the meeting and had a gut feeling we''d end our losing run. We had two good guests and everything just clicked for us.'' POOLE skipper Ryan Sullivan said that a controversial tangle between Matej Ferjan and Nicki Pedersen had fired the Pirates up to overturn an early deficit against Eastbourne. Sullivan said: ''I was frustrated and so fired up because we didn''t want to lose the match after that. I was really pumped up and there was no way I was going to lose Heat 13. ''In fact, I have never seen a team show so much steel and determination to win a meeting before. We fought with everything we had.'' SWINDON star Lee Richardson says that the Robins did well to take a bonus point off Belle Vue recently, and feels that success will act as a confidence booster. Richardson said: ''Bonus points are crucial to us making the play-offs at the end of the season, and so to go to Manchester and pick one up could be the start of more to come. ''We need to build up bigger leads at home because we are going away with no room for error. Our home record has been good, it''s just a case of stretching the leads further.'' WOLVERHAMPTON No.1 Mikael Max returned from illness to spearhead Wolverhampton to an important home win over Ipswich. Max said: ''I came back strongly and we needed it. I''m pleased I managed to come from the back because I feel that''s an important part of my riding. ''We''ve just gone halfway through the season and there is plenty of time to go, but I would stress that we can''t afford to make any more slip-ups at home.'' PREMIER LEAGUE LATEST. BERWICK star Adrian Rymel scored his first-ever full maximum as the Bandits romped to a big win over reigning Premier League Champions Hull. Promoter Peter Waite said: ''I''m delighted for Adrian, he''s waited five years for this maximum and deserved every point. And the Berwick run continues!'' EDINBURGH are facing up to the possibility of being without Ross Brady for up to six weeks after he sustained an ankle injury in the Premier League Pairs. Monarchs spokesman Mike Hunter said: ''This is a big blow for Ross and the team, especially after he''s been doing so well of late. He''s probably been our top man over the last few weeks.'' EXETER skipper Seemond Stephens hopes that the whole Falcons'' team can take confidence from the club''s semi-final appearance in the Premier League Pairs. Stephens said: ''We beat some good people and hopefully we can now use this to start going forward and get some away wins in the League, and then we will be in with a shout.'' GLASGOW skipper Shane Parker said that his Premier League Pairs win with George Stancl was a special day for himself and the club. Parker said: ''Both myself and George were under real pressure to do well for the promotion and the fans and we were so relieved to get the win.'' HULL boss Dave Peet defended his injury-hit team after suffering a heavy defeat at Berwick on Saturday. Peet said: ''We were given a lesson in gating and Berwick were on fire. We were poor but we''d have put up a better show with a full team or a guest scoring double points.'' ISLE OF WIGHT youngster Jason Doyle is facing at least a fortnight out of the saddle after a spectacular crash in the Islanders'' clash with Berwick. Chairman Martin Newnham said: ''We were very relieved indeed to learn that X-rays revealed that he had not broken his ankle, but he has sustained ligament damage.'' KING''S LYNN promoter Buster Chapman says he has had a good response to the Stars'' recent team changes. Chapman said: ''Most of the comments I have received from sponsors and supporters have been very encouraging. I had to move quickly to cover Paul Lee''s absence.'' NEWCASTLE manager George English took consolation from holding high-flying Rye House to draw despite skipper Phil Morris having a disastrous meeting. English said: ''It will always be very hard to beat the strongest team in the League when your skipper and No.1 fails to score a single point, but it was another cracking meeting.'' NEWPORT promoter Tim Stone is understanding of the heavy schedule currently being faced by young Dane Mads Korneliussen, who is racing in both Elite and Premier Leagues. Stone said: ''I think at one stage this season he did 17 matches in 21 days, and that sort of schedule is bound to take its toll on even the most experienced riders.'' READING star Danny Bird is still having to bide his time before making his return from an early-season broken leg. Bird said: ''My leg is very thin and I want to build it up. I am exercising daily and I don''t know when I will be back. I don''t want to take any risks, and I want to be 100% before I return.'' RYE HOUSE manager John Sampford insists he is unconcerned about whether the Rockets face either Workington or Exeter in the Final of the Premier Trophy. Sampford said: ''For me it doesn''t matter as we have no say in it. It''s up to them who gets through, but I''m not fazed or fussed either way. We''ve just got to go out and win it.'' SHEFFIELD boss Neil Machin is asking for more professionalism from his side after another away defeat at the hands of Reading. He said: ''We saw six individuals who only became a team when they pulled on our race-jackets. They didn''t look like a unit, more like a disorganised bunch of individuals - and that has got to change.'' SOMERSET are hoping to have young reserve Lee Smart available for their Premier League clash with Hull on Friday. Rebels boss Mick Bell said: ''Lee crashed at Stoke in the Fours and cracked a bone in his foot. Thankfully I don''t think it will sideline him very long.'' STOKE promoter Dave Tattum was pleased with another successful staging of the Conference League Fours, which was won by Weymouth. Tattum said: ''I thought it ran quite smoothly, there was a lot of good racing and the track held up very well. I was pleased we also received favourable comments.'' WORKINGTON have named Aidan Collins as the replacement for broken shoulder victim Kevin Little - and he will start his stint with the club on July 9. Boss Graham Drury said: ''I''ve looked at all the options available at the minute and I believe Aidan is the best man for the job. FIXTURE PICTURE.
