BENNETTS REVEALS WOMEN WANT TO GO ALL THE WAY!
01 July 2005 - Bennetts

Women bikers don’t always have an easy ride as far as their male counterparts are concerned. Bennetts has revealed that nearly three quarters (70.65%) of female riders think that in order for more girls to get on two wheels, the myth that motorbikes are just for men needs to be dispelled.

Bennetts, the UK’s number one for motorcycle insurance, has been running a survey aimed at female bikers as part of its ‘Go For It Girls!’ women’s campaign. The survey, which has been running on the Bennetts’ website since April 2005, today revealed what women really think when it comes to motorcycling.

When asked what they feel is the hardest thing about being a female rider in a predominantly male industry, almost half (45.95%) agreed that they struggled because men did not take them seriously and only one in five (20.78%) felt that male riders viewed them as equals.

Almost one quarter (23.28%) of the women who took part in the survey, said that they don’t ride anything less than a 600cc to 900cc bike. It seems the days of girls gliding around on mini mopeds are long-gone. Girls now seek the power and speed that guys do.

In addition, over half (54.94%) ride purely for leisure and one in five (21.10%) ride because they are interested in the sport, which suggests that female bikers are just as likely to be first in the queue at the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as the men are.

Kal Samra, Director of Bennetts, comments: “This is the first survey we have conducted as part of the Bennetts ‘Go For It Girls!’ campaign so the results are essential in terms of how the campaign develops and how Bennetts can help to get more women riding.

Our main aim is to get rid of those myths that bikes are just for boys with the help of riders like Janie Omorogbe and Maria Costello who can inspire women to turn to two wheels.”
