MARIA COSTELLO HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR MENCAP The event is being held in remembrance of the late, great Barry Sheene and will be raising money for the charity Mencap. Maria, the fastest woman around the infamous Isle of Man TT, will be joining in all the action during the day including taking part in the cavalcade runs through the town center on her BERING Honda CBR600RR race bike. It will be an early start for Maria as she will begin her day with the ACU/BMF National Rally Presentations. The rally finishes in Rugby to tie in with The Sheene Run and Maria will be on-hand to make presentations at 7.30am at the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre, Bruce Williams Way, Rugby. She will then be involved in interviews and riding through the one-mile course. Maria said, “It’s really special to be involved in raising money for such a worthy charity and remembering one of Britain’s best ever motorcycle racers and characters. I’m looking forward to riding through the town centre, it’s a little bit more sedate than the Isle of Man but I’m sure the crowds will be just as big.” The Sheene Run will be hosted by Steve Parrish and will see the late Barry Sheene’s bikes being ridden, as well as 1 marque clubs and unique race bikes from the past. The day will start at 10am with participants from The National Rally riding in the first cavalcade. The action will continue throughout the day with a live music stage in the town centre, a stunt rider and a trials arena. All the profits from this year’s event will go to Mencap, the leading UK charity, which works with children and adults with a learning disability, and campaigns for equal rights for people with a learning disability and fights discrimination. Anyone wishing to meet up with the fastest woman racer in the UK should get themselves to Rugby for Sunday 3rd July.
