NORWEGIAN BIKER RIDES FROM OLSO TO BUY BRITISH SIDECAR
29 June 2005 - Watsonian-Squire
Ole Uthus from Oslo liked his British-made Squire sidecar so much that when he needed a replacement, he rode his Honda GL1100 to the UK factory to have a new one fitted.
Sidecars have enjoyed increased popularity since the early 1990’s, mainly as a result of riders looking for ways to include their family (in Ole’s case twin 6-year-old daughters) in their biking. Watsonian-Squire made their first sidecar in 1912 and survived the dramatic collapse of the British motorcycle industry in the 1960’s and ‘70’s to emerge as Europe’s biggest specialist manufacturer, exporting to countries around the globe, including Japan & New Zealand. “Ole is fairly typical of our customers,” comments Watsonian’s MD Peter Rivers Fletcher. “He’s a motorcycle enthusiast who wants his young family to have the opportunity to share in his hobby. However, it is unusual for our customers to travel 700 miles across the North Sea to buy a sidecar from us.” Prices for the Squire RX4 sidecar start at £3,981 inc. VAT, subject to specification.
