SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
26 June 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
TONY Rickardsson is closing in on Ivan Mauger''s record of six world titles after victory in the Danish Grand Prix.
The former Poole man brushed aside his rivals in Copenhagen with reigning champion Jason Crump going out in the semi-finals. Rickardsson beat Oxford''s Greg Hancock, Poole youngster Antonio Lindback and Eastbourne star Nicki Pedersen in the final to move a staggering 45-points clear in the title race. REIGNING world champion Jason Crump is about to hand over his crown to Tony Rickardsson - but he is much happier with his form. The Belle Vue man raced through to the semi-finals of the Danish Grand Prix to gain some consolation after the disaster of his British Grand Prix night in Cardiff. He said: ''I''m not downhearted, I''ve picked myself up and I feel a lot better after this performance.''
