TOWNLEY SECOND FASTEST AT ST JEAN

Italian Grand Prix winner Ben Townley was the second fastest MX1 rider after Timed Practice today at the St Jean d’Angely circuit for the French Grand Prix, round eight of the 2005 MX1 World Championship. Carl Nunn won the second qualification heat in MX2.

The renovated circuit located west of La Rochelle was particularly rough and initially muddy after rainfall during the night. The overcast conditions gave way to very hot and humid temperatures that dried the terrain and created a physically demanding test in the afternoon.

Townley was just over a second quicker than his team-mate Steve Ramon, in 5th, with Spain’s Jonathan Barragan placing a third KTM inside the top ten (9th).

In the MX2 class Carl Nunn claimed his second qualification race of the season after taking the lead on the opening lap of Heat 2 and pulling away to win by ten seconds over Andrew McFarlane. Earlier in the afternoon David Philippaerts secured second place in the opening sprint meaning that the 250F riders go into the gate 2nd and 3rd for tomorrow’s GP motos.
