EXTRAORDINARY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL MEETING
20 June 2005 - Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme
The FIM Management Council convened in an extraordinary meeting on June 18 & 29 last in Geneva. The main points discussed and decisions taken are the following:
The 2004 accounts and balance sheet were approved by the Management Council. They will be submitted to the General Assembly for ratification next October. - The complementary nominations for the vacant posts in the Commissions and Panels were discussed and approved by the Management Council. The list of new delegates will now be sent to the National Federations; the newly appointed delegates will take their function at the Biennial Session next October. - The amendments to the FIM Statutes proposed by the working group, as well as changes to the Sporting Code were accepted by the Management Council; they will now be sent to the National Federations and FIM delegates for further consultation, and approval by the General Assembly in October - The Management Council unanimously approved the proposal of the AMA to award the Nicolas Rodil del Valle Gold Medal of Motorcycle Merit to Simon MiIward (former Secretary General of FEM, then FEMA), posthumously, for all his work in the defence of the interests of motorcycle users. - An agreement will be signed between the FIM and the company IFMXF, promoter of Freestyle events; a World Championship calendar will be established for the 2006 season with 10 events in 5 different countries on two continents (at least). A structure to organize training sessions for riders and officials will be put in place. - Following a meeting held at the circuit of Mugello on June 4 with the CER President Amedeo Michelotti, the CTI President Oriol Puig Bulto, the MSMA Secretary General Takanao Tsubouchi and representatives of manufacturers about the situation in Cross-Country Rallies, the Management Council approved some changes and adjustments for the year 2006, in order to improve safety, to reduce the influence of technology and reintroduce the human factor: The GPS will be used as a safety device, not for navigation which will be based exclusively on the road-book. The road-book will be much more complete and precise. The reduction of the distance between refuelling points as well as the quantity of fuel carried by the motorcycles – and consequently the weight - will also be discussed. The future of the classes will be discussed with the manufacturers (MSMA) before taking a final decision (in 2006, both classes will be maintained). A medical control will be compulsory for the riders at the time of the technical control. - The creation of a Women Commission was decided, of which the presidency was entrusted to Mrs Beaulah Schoeman, Motorsport South Africa Managing Director. - Projects to extend the FIM headquarters were discussed. - The 2005 Biennial Session will take place from 21 to 24 October in Geneva (CCR meeting on October 25). - The 2006 Conference Meetings will take place in Geneva from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 February. - The 2006 FIM Congress will be held from 15 to 21 October in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. - The 2006 pre-calendar meeting, foreseen in the Sporting Code to study the provisional calendars of the following season and try to avoid clashes of dates and/or events in the same country on the same week-end, was also held last week-end in Geneva. With mandate of the Management Council, were present FIM President Francesco Zerbi, Deputy President Vito Ippolito, Chief Executive Officer Guy Maitre, and the Presidents of the sporting Commissions concerned. All FIM promoters (Dorna, FGSports, Youthstream, Benfield Sports International, ABC Communication and Octagon/Esedos) sent their provisional calendars, which should still receive several adjustments, as they were established at a very early stage. Some of them are published below, the others will be published within the next few weeks. 2006 Provisonal Calendars - Calendriers provisoires 2006 The Road Racing, Supercross, Indoor Trial, Cross-Country Rallies, Speedway Grand Prix and World Cup calendars for the 2006 season will be announced later.
