CARMICHAEL INCREASES SERIES LEAD
20 June 2005 - Suzuki Racing
Team Suzuki''s Ricky Carmichael increased his AMA Motocross Championship lead to 37 points with two start-to-finish victories on the new four-stroke RM-Z450 at today''s fourth round at Budds Creek in Maryland, despite riding with a damaged finger.
The reigning AMA Outdoor, THQ World Supercross and AMA Supercross Champion led both 30 minute plus-two-lap motos from start to finish, keeping his 100% overall win record intact. Carmichael, who clashed with Kawasaki''s James Stewart in morning practice and needed stitches in his finger, said: ''The hand didn''t bother me too much. I just focussed on racing and forgot about it.'' Second overall was Chad Reed (Yamaha) with Stewart third. In the first race, Carmichael led the start from Honda''s Ernesto Fonseca, Tim Ferry (Yamaha) and Juss Laansoo (Honda). In the second leg, he holeshotted from Reed and Stewart and carved a 17 second win. In the 125cc class, Makita Suzuki''s Davi Millsaps raced to eighth positions in both motos as team mate Broc Hepler crashed in the opening moto and finished 17th in the second. 250 Results: 1: Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki): 2.
