HARLEY-DAVIDSON OPENS A NEW CHAPTER IN MOSCOW
22 June 2005 - Harley-Davidson UK
Harley-Davidson arrived in Moscow in its own unique style this weekend when the Motor Company’s first authorised dealership in Russia threw open its doors and invited everyone to join the celebrations.
The unmistakable sight and sound of classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles like the Fat Boy, Sportster and Road King cruising through the streets of the Russian capital drew a crowd of several thousand people and proved to be a special moment for the new dealership’s director, Maxim Belousov: “This was a great day for my team and for everyone who loves motorcycling in Moscow. So many people have followed Harley-Davidson for a very long time and to finally witness these famous motorcycles parading through the streets of our city made the long wait worthwhile. I think we can say that a dream has come true!” The weekend-long celebrations included live music from several local bands, a stunt show featuring local riders, fashion shows with the very latest Harley-Davidson MotorClothes and a memorable parade that swept through the city streets past some of Moscow’s most famous landmarks. Even a violent summer rainstorm failed to dampen enthusiasm with hundreds of people packing into the dealership for an impromptu party. “Moscow welcomed Harley-Davidson with open arms” commented John Russell, vice president and managing director of Harley-Davidson Europe. “Throughout the weekend people demonstrated a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the Harley-Davidson way of life. Despite our long absence from Russia’s roads there’s an impressive level of loyalty, knowledge and enthusiasm for our motorcycles. I look forward to returning to Moscow to see how this story unfolds,” added Russell. Situated on Kutuzovskiy Prospekt, Harley-Davidson Moscow will sell the full-range of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as parts, accessories and MotorClothes. Over the course of the summer two additional retail points will be opened in the Moscow area as well as a specialist service and performance centre. The dealership is owned and operated by the Mercury Group, one of Russia’s leading automotive and prestige consumer product distributors.
