BARRUS AIM TO DRIVE FORWARD VEHICLE BUSINESS Matthew Gilder, who joined Barrus on 13th June, 2005, will be tasked with increasing the sales of scooters, motorbikes, quad bikes and buggies from the company’s network of over 150 dealers. . Director, Tara Glen said, “We were impressed with Matthew’s experience of the automotive industry, his entrepreneurial skills – honed by setting up his own boat selling business – and his ability to think outside the box. We think he’s the right man to take the business forward.” Mr Gilder, 35, from Sheffield said, “I’m going to focus on brand development, marketing and customer service and come up with creative strategies to boost our market share. I also plan to expand the dealer network. “We sell some excellent brands, including Malaguti and Moto-roma scooters, and I want to massively raise their profile in the UK. With more, new vehicles coming from our suppliers, such as Zongshen, we will have one of the most extensive line up of products in the industry.” Matthew’s career started at automotive retail consultancy APA Group Plc in Milton Keynes, where he trained to become a consultant. He then worked for the family business, Gilders, a group of Volkswagen & Audi dealers based in South Yorkshire and the North Midlands. He started as a Customer Account Manager and, after being approved by Volkswagen UK, was promoted to Volkswagen Brand Manager for the flagship Sheffield dealership. In 2002, Mr Gilder co-founded On Water Ltd, an Internet boat selling business. The company negotiated an exclusive lease to take over the boat selling brokerage at Hartlepool where it increased sales by 300%, representing £1.2 million worth of business. His last post was as General Manager for one of the Royal Bank of Scotland’s franchised car dealerships, Lincoln Volkswagen. Matthew has a degree in economics and is married with two children.
