PASINI BREAKS THE DEADLOCK IN THE 125 CLASS
16 June 2005 - DORNA COMMUNICATIONS
Mattia Pasini (Totti Top Sport NGS) took his second victory of the season at the weekend in the Catalonian GP, a result that boosted him into the Championship lead.
Despite the fall he had at le Mans, which thwarted his chances of riding in the French GP, the Italian Aprilia rider has had a good start to the season. Six races into the season, he is the only rider in the 125cc category to have two victories under his belt. In a Championship so tightly contested, the result manifests the tremendous talent and determination that drives the young Italian. However, lest not his leadership be ephemeral, he will have to progress every race to fight back the likes of Thomas Lüthi and flying Finn Mika Kallio, just one and two points behind respectively. This year, the 125cc Championship has continued to be a blood and guts battle, with everything so closely contested and everything still up for grabs. After six scorching races – with the riders going wheel to wheel, hell bent for leather - we have seen five different winners. However, as evidence of just how tough the category has been this year, only two riders consistently finished in the points in every race – Manuel Poggiali (Metis Gilera) and Julian Simón (Red Bull KTM), classified seventh and eighth respectively.
