SUCCESSFUL HOMECOMING FOR THE FORTUNA YAMAHA BOYS
14 June 2005 - DORNA COMMUNICATIONS

Catalan riders Rubén Xaus and David Checa both achieved their objective of finishing the Gran Prix at Montmeló

Xaus produced one of his best rides of the season and, although he has twice before finished in the top ten, looked very comfortable at Montmeló.

“I am very happy with the race today because we have got more points in the championship, which is what it is all about. We needed a result like this to continue our progress,” commented Xaus, who now holds 13th in the Championship with 24 points.

“Initially the season was proving more difficult than some had expected, but I believe the team and myself are doing a good job, which is letting us stay around the top ten now. The circuits coming up are ones that I like a lot and I hope to do well in the next few races. I want to show the real effort that my team and also Fortuna and Yamaha have been putting in.”

For his second race in the MotoGP class as a substitute for the injured Toni Elias, David Checa scored his first three points in the premier class by taking 13th.

“I could not feel more satisfied with the result I have got. If you think that I only had one day of testing on the M-1 before the race, I don’t think you could ask for more,” said Checa. “I would like to thank the Fortuna Yamaha team for the chance they have given me in Toni’s absence. It meant I got the chance to make my debut in MotoGP in one of the best teams.”
