MIRALLES TO UNDERGO SURGERY IN MADRID
15 June 2005 - DORNA COMMUNICATIONS

Julian Miralles checked into San José Hospital in Madrid yesterday to undergo treatment for the injuries he sustained when he crashed during a practice session last weekend at Mugello.

The Aspar team rider sustained complicated fractures to his right tibia and fibula and is soon due to undergo surgery at the Madrid hospital.

Miralles remained in Florence until yesterday, where he underwent a first operation on Monday. The rider, who also sustained a right ankle dislocation, will now be treated by Dr Angel Villamor.

“It seems that we’ll receive Julian with a serious inflammation of the lower part, it’s normal after such a serious crash, but it makes things very difficult for surgery,” said Dr Villamor before seeing Miralles. “The Italian doctors commented to me the importance of inflammation, and they feared vasculary problems and they only stabilized his condition.”

“We’ll try to reduce the fractures through surgery and we’ll also set-up a recovery schedule to limit the consequences, from an anatomical and functional points of view.”
