26 May 2005 - Suzuki Racing
Francis Martin led from start to finish on his GSX-R1000 to win the opening round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Shannonville, Ontario.
The Snob Girl/ Laval Moto/ DSX Diablo-sponsored Suzuki rider also set a new lap record for the Shannonville ''Pro Circuit'' with a blistering 1:04:902 lap time. Team Suzuki Blackfoot Racing''s Clint McBain and Kevin Lacombe brought their GSX-R1000s home in fifth and sixth positions. The Pro 600 class saw the debut of Matt Binns and Kevin Lacombe joining returning-veteran Clint McBain on their Team Suzuki Blackfoot Racing GSX-R600s. Both qualified on the front row with McBain right behind them on the second row. Binns rocketed to the front and was looking to run away with the race until he had a high-side which brought out a red flag. On the restart, McBain led the Suzuki battle against rival Steve Crevier on the Honda, taking the lead just before the halfway point. Then, in the closing laps, McBain''s tyres started to go off just enough to let Crevier past to win in the closest finish of the weekend. The Amateur 600 National class lived up to its reputation for excitement with numerous racing incidents. Early leader Dave Stewart, on his Suzuki GSX-R600, looked like he was well on the way to victory after opening up a sizeable lead but then crashed out at the half-way point. It was then up to last year''s National SV650 Cup winner, Pascal Anctil, to carry the Suzuki flag in his debut on the GSX-R600. Anctil put in an excellent ride and piloted his GSX-R600 to a podium position with a third-place finish. The Suzuki SV650 Cup National Championship series also kicked off with a strong field of competitors. Toronto rider, Norm Tang, took the initial lead but it wasn''t to last long as Alain Lefebvre from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec passed Tang on the second lap and cruised off to a seven-second margin at the finish. Dave Bagshaw from Kincardine, Ontario brought his Suzuki SV650 home to the final podium position. Superbike Results: 1 Francis Martin (Suzuki) , 2 Frank Trombino (Yamaha), 3 Jordan Szoke (Honda), 4 Steve Crevier (Honda), 5 Clint McBain (Suzuki) , 6 Kevin Lacombe (Suzuki) , 7 Tom Kipp (Kawasaki), 8 Pascal Picotte (Yamaha), 9 Matthew McBride (Kawasaki), 10 Andrew Nelson (Honda).
