ABS SPRINT ST''S NOW AVAILABLE
21 May 2005 - Triumph Motorcycles Ltd

Triumph is pleased to announce that the ABS version of the Sprint ST is now available in dealers.

Launched earlier this year the Sprint ST has redefined the sports
touring class with a breathtaking package of distinctive looks,
sophisticated design and highly acclaimed performance.  Now the
combination of charismatic and powerful triple cylinder engine and
beautifully balanced chassis has been further enhanced with an ABS
option.

ABS features high on the list of desired attributes for touring riders,
particularly on the continent and so it was a logical step to design an
ABS version of the new ST from the outset.

With the tremendous advances made in the performance of brakes, tyres
and suspension over the past decade or so, most riders only use around
70% of their bike’s braking ability.  ABS is a great way of improving
this statistic, particularly when faced with a panic situation or when
riding in the wet.

“Many riders feel an ABS system distances the rider from his machine
but this really isn’t the case,”” says Triumph’s New Product
Development Manager, Ross Clifford. “The system is carefully designed
to be unobtrusive and to retain all the sensations and feel of
riding. It simply adds to the rider’s control under hard braking.”

“In particular riders dislike the idea of a system that dictates the
balance of braking between front and rear and for this reason we’ve
shied away from a linked system. The front and rear brakes on the ST
work independently.”

The ABS system used on the Sprint ST works in a similar way to the
technology now standard on cars.  The system operates at 100
calculations per second and so can sense the exact moment the wheel is
about to lock up. It then releases the brake a fraction of a second to
allow the wheel to regain grip before reapplying the brake. The switch
controlling this process operates at a mere four milliseconds and the
system modulates the pressure between these two points to achieve
optimum breaking.

The ABS Sprint ST is available in Sunset Red and is priced at £8399 otr.

Test rides are available now from authorised Triumph dealers.
