19 May 2005 - MZ Motorrad- und Zweiradwerk GmbH
On the occasion of the visit of the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, to Germany, MZ Germany presented him with a sample of the MZ 1000 ST Police Bike.
The bike is based on the recently launched MZ 1000 ST SuperTraveller. It is powered by the MZ 1000-R2 in-line 2-cylinder engine that is optimum for police use. It allows both top speeds of up to 230 kph for pursuit as well as walking speed for motorcades and patrols. The comfortable upright seating position enables the rider to keep full view of the surrounding area as well as to exude a certain authority. With a storage system that can carry a payload of 25 kg (120 l), the bike offers plenty of space for police equipment and can be customized to the specific need of the police. In addition, the bike is fitted with crash bars, sirens and blue flash lights. MZ Germany, located in Zschopau/Saxony, the very cradle of the German motorcycle industry can look back on a rich tradition in motorcycle innovation and production. The first motorcycle in Zschopau was produced in 1922 and since then MZ has been in the forefront of motorcycle development and racing success. From September 1996, MZ Germany is a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysian based Hong Leong Industries Berhad. In the last 6 years, MZ has invested in developing new products and has succeeded in engineering best and modern engines in the 125cc and in the 1000cc classes. MZ is an experienced supplier of Police and Army bikes: MZ has to date supplied the German police with more than 630 bikes of different displacements. In addition, it has supplied the Egyptian police with 87 units and recently won a tender to supply the French Army with 502 units. MZ will be very pleased and honoured to be a supplier to the Malaysian police and hopes that the MZ 1000 ST will be positively evaluated by the Malaysian Police and that it would meet their requirements. MZ also believes its range of 125cc bikes particularly the versatile MZ 125 Supermoto will be especially useful in the Malaysia environment.
