CORSER TAKES MONZA FIRST RACE
09 May 2005 - Suzuki Racing

In one of the closest and most exciting World Superbike races of the season, Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra riders Troy Corser and Yukio Kagayama stormed to first and second in the opening race at Monza.

Corser and Kagayama fended off Ducati’s reigning World Champion James Toseland and team mate Regis Laconi with just 1.7 seconds separating the four of them at the end of the 18-lap race.

Laconi took second off Kagayama twice during the race and Kagayama led momentarily from Corser. Then, in the final laps, Toseland made an attempt on the Japanese rider, but was shut out.

Said Corser: ''That was a good race. The Suzuki went real well although the tyres started going off a little towards the end. But that was probably because I was pushing so hard earlier on. I made a small mistake and Yukio came past me, but he made a mistake and I got back in front, although I tried to give him as much room as possible.''

This keeps Suzuki’s 100% season win-record intact with a total of seven race victories for the all-new GSX-R1000K5 machine.
