HARRIS HEADS UP ROW TWO
01 May 2005 - Honda Racing

The Dunlop/BLD backed CBR1000RR Fireblade of Karl Harris will start tomorrow’s two 18-lap Bennetts British Superbike Championship races from fifth position on the grid.

The 25-year-old Yorkshireman faced a tough battle for a strong starting position – even holding pole for some time during the first qualifying session.

However, he struggled for clear tarmac to put in a fast enough lap to retain a place on the front row of the grid. Oulton Park is one of Harris’ favourites on this year’s 13-event calendar. He dominated both Supersport races at the 2.692-mile Cheshire circuit last year aboard the Honda CBR600RR.

With his knowledge of the track and having optimised the set-up of the Honda-Racing.co.uk machine, Harris will be aiming for his best Superbike finish to date tomorrow – and possibly a podium place.

Karl Harris: “I’m reasonably happy with fifth place, although a front row position would have been nice. The main thing is that I’m directly behind [Michael] Rutter and I know he’s going to be one of the people to keep an eye on this weekend, so I’m just keeping him in my sights until we reach the chequered flag.”

Qualifying: 1. M.Rutter (HM Plant Honda Racing) 1.36.436; 2. D. Thomas (Kawasaki) +0.479; 3. L.Haslam (Ducati) +0.748; 4. G.Richards (Kawasaki) +0.972; 5. K.Harris (Honda-Racing.co.uk) +1.089; 6. G.Mason (Honda) +1.146; 7. J.Haydon (Suzuki) +1.378; 8. J.Laverty (Honda) +1.531; 9. G.Lavilla (Ducati) +1.544; 10. S.Smart (Suzuki) +1.768
