WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
01 May 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
WOLVERHAMPTON can move into a play-off place if all goes well when they face Eastbourne Eagles at Monmore Green on Monday (7.30).
When the sides met recently they fought out a 45-45 draw in Sussex which means Wolverhampton have a superb chance to claim maximum points. And if other results go their way on a busy Bank Holiday they could find themselves in the top four. Skipper Steve Johnston said: ''We are improving all the time. I personally let the side down at Poole with my poor score down there last week and hopefully it will all come right against Eastbourne.'' Eastbourne include 2003 world champion Nicki Pedersen, who remains on Wolverhampton''s books and is regarded as one of the toughest riders around. Great Britain international David Norris, who is tipped for a wildcard entry at next month''s British Grand Prix in Cardiff, is hoping to figure despite a crash at Swindon last week. He is the Wolverhampton track record holder. After the main event, Wolverhampton are proud to be staging the first ever British Academy League fixture. A selection of 13, 14 and 15 year-olds on fully developed 500cc machines will do battle over eight races. WOLVERHAMPTON: Mikael Max, Ronnie Correy, Freddie Lindgren, Steve Johnston, David Howe, Magnus Karlsson, Krzystof Pecyna. EASTBOURNE: David Norris, Andrew Moore, Dean Barker, Adam Shields, Nicki Pedersen, Steen Jensen, Davey Watt.
