SUPPORT GROWS FOR THE M4 PROTEST
24 April 2005 - M4 Protest

Something amazing is happening. It seems that the M4 speed cameras were a tipping point. There is huge support for the M4 Protest.

More than 20,000 page views in the first three days. They''ve had many hundreds of emails of support and less than a dozen against. But it isn''t yet enough.

They want you to back the M4 Protest.

This is unique and golden opportunity to rally the motorists'' oft-heard grumblings into a full blown battle cry - perfectly timed before the General Election.

There''s no reason not to back the M4 Protest:

* The M4 Protest is peaceful, Police approved non-obstructing and 100% legal. (The protest drive will run in lanes one and two only at 56mph)

* Police approved safety instructions will be issued to protestors. http://www.m4protest.org/participate.html

* Many individual Police officers are highly sympathetic to our aims.

* M4 Protest is not party political.

* They have a carefully crafted set of 8 intelligent demands intended to improve road safety, expose the flaws in the current scheme, and protect the vital police / public relationship. http://www.m4protest.org/about.html

* After £700 million pounds of speed camera fines UK overall road safety is getting much worse. We''re now the slowest improving country in Europe, while 15 years ago we were the fastest. If previous very long term trends had continued we''d be down to 2,000 road deaths per year by now, not 3,500 and rising. Speed camera policy has failed and is propped up only by vested interests and untrustworthy statistics.
