HARLEYWORLD RACES TO THE TOP
11 April 2005 - Harley-Davidson UK

Keith Jackson, with the backing of Chesterfield’s own success story Harleyworld, is entering this year’s National Off-Road Racing Association (NORA) Sport Masters of Super Moto and Short Track UK series – on a Harley-Davidson 1200R Sportster.

With the series populated by dedicated off-road racing machines, Harleyworld’s modified Sportster is up against some serious competition. But with the 1200R’s racing heritage springing from the world-famous XR750 Sportster – still to this day the most successful motorcycle in racing history, and renowned for its abilities on and off road – Keith stands in good stead for the Super-Moto championships.

A technician at Harleyworld for four years, Keith Jackson has been riding motorcycles since the age of 16, and works with both Harley-Davidson and Buell at the dealership. He has been riding in Super Moto since 1994, winning the 2001 NORA Championship, and is confident his new machine will see him more than challenge his rivals in this season’s races.

So what did Harleyworld do to make this Harley-Davidson Sportster competitive in the championships? Patrick Yates, sales manager at Harleyworld and fellow racer in hill-climb events aboard the Sportster, explains:

“From stock the Sportster XL1200R has had Screamin’ Eagle performance carburettors, air filters and exhaust pipes fitted, and we’ve added race compound tyres to ensure traction. And that’s it. The huge torque provided by the Harley-Davidson V-twin gives it great power out of corners, and that combined with the chassis makes it easy to ‘back-it-in’ to each bend – a trick you have to learn in Super Moto!

“And I’ll be competing in six hill climb races aboard the same machine as Keith this year. We deliberately picked the XL1200R for its versatility. Harley-Davidsons are more famous as touring and cruising motorcycles, but if anyone wants to see just how quick they can be, they should come along to some of the races!”

The Sportster XL1200R is £6,995 on the road. For more information on the racing, dates and venues call Patrick Yates at Harleyworld on 01246 450 850 or visit www.harleyworldchesterfield.com
