WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
01 April 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

ELITE LEAGUE: SWINDON 48 WOLVERHAMPTON 42

WOLVES were edged out in the closing stages of their Elite League match at Swindon on Thursday, with the Robins taking nine points from the last two races to secure the win. Charlie Gjedde, who had a loan spell with Wolves back in 1999, scored a full maximum for the home side whose top-end strength proved decisive in the end. Wolves got off to an excellent start with a 5-1 in the reserves'' race from Magnus Karlsson and Krzysztof Pecyna, but their lead was short-lived with Swindon hitting straight back in the next race. Swindon dominated the heat wins, providing the first man past the flag in eight consecutive races including Heat 8 which did appear to favour Wolves on paper, only for the previously scoreless Sebastian Alden to take the victory. Wolves pulled back a six-point deficit to level going into Heat 13 and there was drama as the usually impeccable Leigh Adams fell on turn three, but fortunately for the Robins Lee Richardson took control of the re-run. Swindon then wrapped things up with a 4-2 in the penultimate race and a 5-1 in Heat 15, Gjedde completing his maximum as Wolves were left frustrated.

SWINDON: Charlie Gjedde 15, Leigh Adams 11+1, Lee Richardson 11, Sebastian Alden 4, Jonas Davidsson 3+1, Sebastain Tresarrieu 3, Oliver Allen 1.

WOLVES: Mikael Max 10, Magnus Karlsson 9+3, Krzysztof Pecyna 6+1, Fredrik Lindgren 5, Steve Johnston 5, Ronnie Correy 4+3, David Howe 3+1.
