GEORGE BEALE TO HEAD UP H&H MOTORCYCLE DEPT
31 March 2005 - H&H Classic Auctions

The legendary George Beale has been appointed to step up H&H Classic Auctions’ activities in the motorcycle market.

Said, Managing Director Simon Hope, “We regularly achieve good prices for classic motorcycles at our main sales, but we now plan to be much more active in this exciting sector and there is nobody better than George to assist us with that aim.”

Beale has a reputation for doing things properly. A pharmacist by profession, he had done his fair share of scrambling as a youngster but first established his engineering skills in 1971 by manufacturing replacement parts for the AJS 7R and Matchless G50. Two years later he became a racing sponsor and by 1980 was running the biggest private racing team in Europe, comprising such riders as Roger Marshall, Mick Grant, Jeff Sayle and Graeme McGregor. They achieved many successes – not least winning two races in the Isle of Man TT in one day. He also managed the British team in 1980, which featured all the notable UK riders of the day, including Barry Sheene.

In 1986, Beale purchased virtually all the ex-works Suzuki racing bikes, as ridden by such heroes as Barry Sheene, Randy Mamola, Mick Grant and Graham Crosby. Still manufacturing parts for the 7R and G50, he then moved into the restoration of all types of classic motorcycles and within three years was building complete replica bikes of unrivalled quality.

He is now widely known as the man who painstakingly recreated the Benelli Four and a batch of six Honda Sixes, as ridden by the incomparable Mike
Hailwood. That the first of the run was bought by Honda itself is tribute enough to Beale’s abilities. The fact that the others sold for £235,000 each – yes each! – says it all.

Beale-manufactured machines have by now won countless races all over the world, not least the Classic 60’s event at Daytona, which they have scooped no less than nine times.

InCA
To further ensure the future for classic bikes and their riders, George created the ‘International Classic Association’ (InCA) in 1998. A series for pre ’73 racing bikes and replicas, its rounds now act as major support races for motorcycle, car and truck meetings all over Europe. The grids are a cauldron of talented modern riders and the aces of yesteryear – eg Barry Sheene before his untimely death from cancer in 2003.

H&H are to sponsor the 2005 InCA Series. Said H&H Managing Director Simon Hope, “Nobody has done more than George and his team to further classic bike racing and we are delighted to be able to support this wonderful series that gives so much pleasure to so many.”

National representation
Beale’s priority for H&H is to spread the gospel. A man of countless contacts, he confidently expects to draw the right entries and match them with appropriate buyers. He said, “H&H’s uniquely attractive premiums are alone a major incentive, but they also offer a better service than anybody else and are utterly straightforward to deal with. I believe they have a very bright future in motorcycle sales and I will work hard to put them firmly at the top of the tree.”

Good national representation is fundamental to this future success and Beale has already appointed his first agent – Steve Tonkin. A former TT winner and international racer of note, he and Beale go back to the ‘70s, when Tonkin
rode Beale-prepared Yamahas.

Since 1989 he has run a highly-renowned restoration business. He will represent H&H in the North of England and Scotland.
